truth in advertising?

  1. i'd say not.
i'm going to simplify by equating the diamonds to money and say that i have known plenty of miserable people who are loaded, and plenty of happy people who are not. (this is not to say, of course, that ALL people with or without money are either happy or not...just that money doesn't make the difference.)
the only other thing diamonds tend to signify in advertising is love, but of course you don't need a diamond to be in love. and if you do, then we define love very differently.

  2. Yes I think the equation of diamonds with love and romance was one of the cleverest and untruthful pices of modern advertising, turning what would otherwise have been small industrial gemstones into valuable objects.
